| Friends
of Freedom : Liberal Youth Forum
|
The graduates of CCS
seminars and interns form groups called Friends
of Freedom in their cities all over India.
These groups provide a platform for young people to
carry forward the debates and discussions which are
sparked at the CCS seminars. They also take up issues
of local concern and develop campaigns to create awareness
and initiate change in their institutions and communities.
|
The FoF is
about the change in the members of the group
themselves and the change through them in the community.
We presently have many groups across India
which are organizing a wide range of activities in
Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Changanessary, Chennai, Cochin,
Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Mumbai, Pune, and Ranchi.
|
Structure
|
A group of CCS seminar
graduates from a city get together and decide to form
a FOF group. Taking a cue from the principle of subsidiarity
that CCS endorses, FOF too, largely manages its
own affairs. The members pick up their own projects
and execute them in their way. They update CCS of
their activities. CCS provides training, guidance,
and support to the groups on a regular basis.

Activities
|
With the motive of bringing
about India's second freedom struggle, FOF members
pick up activities that match their interest
and the situation in their cities. The activities
motivate, train and engage existing members of the
group and also attract and engage new members and
general youth audiences. Some of these activities
are:
|
Initiating discussions around public policy issues
at educational and social institutions
Research and documentation on local issues
Local campaign through street plays, public hearings
or jansunvayis on specific issues
Writing for local media on these issues
A pro-active filing of RTI applications to bring about
change at the local level
Translation and circulation of books and articles
in local languages
Freedom Fest: A Festival to engage youth in the city
to create awareness about the FOF and public policy
issues. The Festival could have activities such as
quiz, debates, session on 'How to use Right to Information',
documentary screenings, poster-making, slogan writing.
