From the Editor.... Our government today almost works like a cabal. As I write notes in Delhi, I see bulldozing and bullying happening around me as illegal structures are being demolished. Till now, these structures have been built and cemented right under the noses of the netas. Now amidst the sudden demolition drive, few things confuse the common man-Why did it take so long to punish the violators? Is the government sure that all violators are being punished? What is the guarantee that these defaulters will not violate rules again? At the core of all this lies one question- how was the criteria for building violations set by the government? As citizens how do we know the government agencies were fair in finding out who did what? Some say the answers to all this befuddlement can be found through Right to Information Act (RTIA). The intent of this act is to provide a more transparent and accountable government system. Well, then to make RTI work there is a pre-requisite of an ACTIVE CITIZENRY. It simply means adding one more alphabet to RTIA- "U". Now "U" is an important element in governance. It calls YOU for an URGENT action against what U think is wrong. We have selected certain web links, which will be helpful for you to know more about this act. In this issue we cover different issues besides RTI- be it a vox populi on prostitution or a report on rural India. From Bureaucrats to beggars- we cover a cross section of lives across India. We also update you on activities on the CCS front. It gives us pleasure to announce the results of the yearlong competition here at eCatalyst as well. As promised, our next issue due in June will be in PRINT! Do send us your ideas about the structure, content, and design!
